Ahmed Al‑Mashraie

Ahmed Al‑Mashraie is a photographer and software engineer based in New York.

His research is in human-computer interaction: how people and machines end up talking past each other. His photographs are about places that were never listening in the first place. Mountains at 4am, empty roads, weather. Nothing here is participating.

Most of it is made alone, on foot, on a phone. Nothing was arranged, lit, or asked to hold still.

He goes places because the world keeps not running out of things worth standing in front of, and because it happens everywhere, not only where it is supposed to. Finding it is only half of it. The rest is wanting somebody else to see it the way it looked from where he stood.

The work is grouped into four sets. The order inside each one is loose and the archive stays open.
